It was an honour for me to be invited to judge the East Anglian Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Open show. It is a Club I have been long associated with, the first Breed Club I joined and the Club where I have served on Committee for many years. The standard of dogs on display today was exemplary, the decisions taken in good spirit and the atmosphere at ringside was first rate. The hospitality shown to me was excellent, my stewards on the day were outstanding and everything added up to a day I will never forget.

I am not one for sweeping statements about the state of the breed, taken from what is a small cross-section of the dogs on display at the moment. What I can say though is today movement was better than at any other time I have judged and so was dentition.

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge, and more importantly the exhibitors, for giving me the opportunity to judge your wonderful pets.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (1)

JUNIOR DOG (3)

1st Hopkins’ TRUFFLESTAFF PAPINASHUASH JW

Stocky, well boned black brindle dog. Punishing head, strong square front leading to a deep chest with well laid shoulders and a powerful rear. Drove up the mat with purpose and held a level topline throughout.

2nd Keogh’s JACOBEAUS HE WHO DARES

Lovely, strongly built powerful dog with a headpiece to die for. Superb strength and balance with keen expression and well shaped body. Moved well. I would have preferred a little more depth to the chest, but he is just a youngster and I’m sure he will develop into a real showstopper

Neat head and inquisitive expression, well placed shoulders and good rear action. Saw enough on the move to demonstrate correct movement, although needs to settle more in the ring
